About Me
Looking back on my life …
The most rewarding aspects of my life have all involved helping others, from my training career within the corporate sector, to helping my children become independent and achieve the lives they desire. I have learnt to appreciate that we are all unique, with different beliefs, values and aspirations. It takes time to discover what is important for us as individuals, rather than simply fitting in with everyone else’s perception of how our life should be.
I have also experienced the true value of an excellent counsellor who has helped me negotiate the rollercoaster of life, with the sadness and happiness it produces. Fundamentally, taking control of life is the key to happiness, sometimes we cannot change the situation but we can change how we react to it. It may take time but it can happen.
My experience …
After completing a CPCAB level 2 and 3 Counselling Diploma, I decided to professionally develop further and embarked on a full-time BA (Hons) Counselling Degree. Returning to the classroom environment after many years was fascinating, rewarding and hard work but definitely worth it. The theoretical orientation was Humanistic, including Person-Centred, Gestalt, Existential, Solution-Focused and Transactional Analysis, all encompassing emotional and psychological well-being. Additionally, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing were studied. The in-depth knowledge of how our beliefs are formed, cultural values, the LGBTQ community, addiction, bereavement and how various integrative counselling methods help clients was thoroughly explored.
I am also qualified as a Clinical Supervisor (Level 6). I work with a Person Centred and Integrative approach. Please refer to my details on the Counselling Directory or contact me on 07941 809328 for further information.
I am immensely proud of my chosen profession, constantly striving to work ethically and professionally, to meet the BACP’s (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) standards, which all clients deserve.
My practice …
My counselling experience is with a wide age range, spanning from 7 years to 67 years. In addition to private practice, this has included working in a London school and also a local counselling agency with young people and adults.
We can all experience difficulties at any time in our lives but we can learn coping strategies at any age and utilise them throughout our lives. I adapt the counselling to the person and appreciate we are all different.
Witnessing the contented smiles of clients as they regain control of their lives, whilst becoming stronger and happier, is the reward for a vocation I love.
